2017 Winter Intensive

Open to Students Grades 8-12

Students will learn the basics of improv, develop a comedic voice, and have a blast over three action-packed sessions lead by professionals from The KC Improv Company. The intensive will end with a culminating performance where students get to showcase what they have learned and open for The KC Improv Company!

Meet the Instructors:

Jeff Smith 


A teacher at Washington High School by day, Jeff is a trained educator and easily relates to today’s youth (a kid once called him cool).  Jeff has  performed professionally aound KC with the Coterie theater, American Heartland, Unicorn, Late Night, MET, Starlight, and Egads.  Jeff has been a company member of the KC Improv company 2 years, performing in formats like Presto! The improvised Musical and Threads: A Harold. He is alsoa founding member of the award-winning local indie group, Mortal Wombat.  Jeff’s improv philosophy is a focus on relationship--based, narrative storytelling through open heart, open mind, and open hand.  He is very excited to work with the 2017 Winter Intensive students!
 
 
Carolyn Pjecha
Carolyn Pjecha started improvising in 2012 with Liberty High School's Exit 16 coached by Trish Berrong. Following an interest in long form, she improvised with KCIC's House Team TypeCast, a romantic comedy genre piece directed by Adam Hoelscher. Carolyn has been coaching Liberty High School's Comedy Gold, for the local improv nonprofit Operation: Show! for the past two seasons. Prior to joining the KC Improv Company
 
 
 

Jamie Campbell

 Jamie Campbell has been teaching improvisation for a decade at venues throughout the United States.  He began his career in Chicago where he trained and performed virtually everywhere the city had to offer.  An award-winning improviser, playwright, actor, and stand-up comedian, he was specially-selected by the sister of the late Andy Kaufman to perform at the TBS Just For Laughs Festival. He has shared the stage or worked on projects with countless legendary names in comedy and entertainment, including Hannibal Buress, Cameron Esposito, Oscar Isaac, TJ Miller, Scott Adsit, Ty Burrell, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Alicia Keys, and Dana Carvey.
